Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Kenwood FS-130 Meat SlicerCustomer Review: Kenwood FS-130 Meat Slicer Summary: 2 Stars
I knew when I purchased this unit that cleaning up would a challenge, but hoped that the time saved slicing meat would more than compensate for the clean up time of the blade parts and sliding components. Alas I must say it is not true unless you have a large amount of beef or ham to slice. It is just not that fast or smooth working to make it worth getting out for the smaller roast or turkey. I think if I did it again, I would spend more and buy a larger unit. You also need to cut up large roasts to smaller sized pieces for it to work well with this slicer
Description of Kenwood FS-130 Meat SlicerThe word "maverick" conjures up images of nonconformity and risk-taking; not very confidence-inspiring adjectives when applied to a machine that features a formidable 7-inch stainless-steel slicing blade. However, with the Maverick food slicer, safety is a given: this deluxe household slicer contains a host of safeguards to ensure that only food--not fingers--makes contact with the cutter. Many commercial slicers require the operator to press and guide the food manually through the blade--a risky business when getting down to those final swipes. On the Maverick slicer, cheddar cheese, roast beef, or bread is held in place with a press plate and glides along a feeder track. Hands touch the feeder, but not the food.To operate the machine, dial the desired thickness using the knob on the back of the motor housing and release the safety lock. Then hold down the pulse switch throughout the cutting process. If you let go for any reason, power to the blade shuts off--and so does the cutting action. A necessity for home canning, dehydrating, or preparing luncheon meats, the slicer comes with a 90-day warranty, and the blade, blade cover, and press plate disassemble for thorough cleaning. --Carol Gnojewski
