Had seen these types and possibly this model of temperature probe suggested on several TV cooking segments. Got it on sale last year or earlier. Didn't get around to using it until just this evening. The directions were hard to read because the type was very small, probably smaller than an 8. The lines describing how to 'synchronize' the remote and receiver were smaller than the general type. Never-the-less. Synchronization did not appear to occur. But at some point, I was able to get the probe temperature showing up on the receiver. Great! Removed the probe from the hot water I was using to test the probe. Than I placed the probe into a large pork roast. Next I placed the roast into the oven. The probe indicated a temperature drop from the water to the cold roast. Less than 10 minutes later found that the probe temperature was no longer shown on the receiver (signal lost). Spent more than a half hour checking the batteries and pressing the 'on'/'off' buttons of the receiver and transmitter trying to get synchronization. Very disappointed since I have a convection oven and sometimes temperature is reached before expected so I liked the idea of being warned when approaching the set temperature. Very possibly I just have a bad unit; but for all practical purposes, the remote oven alert is not working and I have to go back to using a manual temperature probe to check the temperature during roasting again. Just plain disappointed because I wished it would work since there is no reason that the technology shouldn't work -- I strongly suspect that quality control (or the quality of the product to begin with) is very poor. Only a 90 day warranty so won't consider getting another one from this company; and those from other companies very high in price comparatively (perhaps because the quality of their product is better?)to justify the convenience instead of manually taking a temperature reading. I hate having to give a low rating for this product. But since I've profited from reviews by others, I feel responsible to report on my experience with the Maverick ET-901 Remote Oven Voice Alert Thermometer. Synchronization is a problem between the remote and transmitter.
